Our testing and research laboratory fulfills two main tasks:
- Carrying out experimental investigations as part of the research activities of the Steel Construction department in the following areas:
- The execution of test orders from industry – especially in the field of sandwich technology.

The test hall is integrated into the TU Darmstadt's 360° project, which enables a virtual tour of the Lichtwiese campus.
The Department of Steel Construction has a 25 m x 15 m clamping floor on which variable test frames can be set up in a 1 m x 1 m pattern. The test frames are assembled as required from a modular system and can be equipped with different hydraulic cylinders to apply the load (test stand 1 and test stand 2 ). Compressive and tensile forces of up to 1000 kN can be applied, the maximum compressive load is 3000 kN.
In addition, the following testing machines are available:
- universal testing machine: max. 100 kN (tensile and compressive force)
- universal testing machine: max. 400 kN (tensile and compressive force)
- universal testing machine: max. 1000 kN (tensile and compressive force)
- universal testing machine: max. 5000 kN (compressive force)
- wall panel test stand
- Climate room with temperatures from -20 °C to + 80 °C and variable humidity (space approx. 2.5 m x 4.5 m)
- Climate chamber for conditioning samples (10 % to 95 % relative humidity and 10 °C to 90 °C temperature)
Our testing laboratory has been specializing in mechanical testing of sandwich elements in the construction industry for several decades and is officially recognized by the DIBT as a monitoring and certification body in accordance with the Landesbauordnung. Since 2017, we have also been accredited by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) for tests in the field of sandwich technology in accordance with DIN EN 17025.
As an accredited laboratory, we are committed to independence and strict confidentiality. We take this claim just as seriously as the professional and reliable fulfillment of our test orders for our customers from the industry.
