Occupational profiles

Here you will have the opportunity to explore your career opportunities by completing courses in steel construction.

Working areas in Steel Construction

Which career opportunities do I have if I focus my Bachelor's degree on structural engineering, or if I go on to do a Master's degree deepening in steel construction? When and for what do I need steel construction in practice? Which qualifications are required for which professional tasks?

We will attempt to answer these questions with the following examples of career profiles. If we don't fully succeed, simply contact us directly. We will be pleased to answer your questions as good as we can.

The suitable courses can be found in the detailed description at the end of each job profile.

B.Sc. BIG – BI „Structural Engineering “

Verifying the stability of load-bearing structures is a key aspect in the design of buildings. In addition to stability, engineers must also analyze serviceability, which is often defined by building-specific specifications.

The verification of the stability of structures is an essential aspect in the design of structures. In addition to stability, engineers must also analyze serviceability, which is often defined by requirements of construction projects.

Examples of professional occupations are structural engineers, static engineers, structural engineers, draughtsman, project developers, geotechnical engineers and construction managers.

M.Sc. BI–CE „Structural Engineering and Bridge Construction“

Buildings and supporting structures in general are an essential part of our civilization. We have direct or indirect contact with buildings every day. We either spend time in buildings or cross bridges, for example by car or train.

Structural design in general, but especially for bridge structures, requires a broad range of knowledge in the various fields of structural engineering.

Students in this occupation will be able to independently design, plan and construct structural engineering, civil engineering and bridge construction projects. They will also learn the capabilities to develop project and construction details

B.Sc. BIG – BI „Structural Engineering – Building Construction“

The job description “Structural engineering – building construction” is based on one of the classic civil engineering professions. Structural engineers require a good basic knowledge of the main building materials steel and concrete. Geotechnics includes the building foundations and therefore important boundary conditions for many projects realized in structural engineering. Construction management also provides us with many boundary conditions that enter into the planning phase at an early stage and must be taken into account by structural engineers.

Professional occupations in this field include structural engineers, static engineers, test engineers, draughtsmen, project developers, geotechnical engineers and construction managers in engineering offices, construction companies and public authorities.

M.Sc. BI-CE „Structural Engineering – Building Construction“

The safety of supporting structures is very important. We all use supporting structures on a regular basis, from simple residential buildings to large office and industrial buildings, sports arenas and stations. In addition to structural stability, which is usually regulated by standards, structural engineers must also analyze serviceability.

In order to be able to fulfill the tasks of structural engineers, it requires profound knowledge of material-related technical principles for materials such as steel, concrete, wood, masonry and composite materials.

Structural engineers usually work very closely with architects in building construction. In industrial construction, coordination with plant designers is often necessary, whereas in infrastructure and bridge construction, coordination with traffic planners is required.

Professional occupations in this field include structural engineers, static engineers, test engineers, draughtsmen, project developers, geotechnical engineers and construction managers in engineering offices, construction companies and public authorities.
